When we feel the need to ‘get away’ and hang a hammock on a tree…
Perhaps a hymn will be enough for me:
“Like a River Glorious”
“Like a river glorious, Is God’s perfect peace, Over all victorious In it’s bright increase; Perfect, yet it floweth Fuller every day, Perfect, yet it groweth Deeper all the way. Stayed upon Jehovah, Hearts are fully blest; Finding as He promised, Perfect peace and rest.”
“Like a river glorious, is God’s perfect peace!”
Hidden in the hollow Of His blessed hand, Never foe can follow Never traitor stand; Not a surge of worry, Not a shade of care, Not a blast of hurry Touch the Spirit there.”
Speaking the words of this hymn out loud, are actually helping me to ‘get away from it all!’ OK, I can’t hear the birds and the leaves of the tree, but this hymn speaks truth to my heart and brings ‘rest’ to me: “Stayed upon Jehovah, Hearts are fully blest; Finding as He promised, Perfect peace and rest.”
Hanging up the hammock on page 335, to ” Rock of Ages, cleft for me let me hide myself in Thee,” who would have thought that ‘the water and the blood from thy wounded side which flowed, … would wash me and cleanse me and refresh me enough, to look across the page to “Like a River Glorious!”
These words are living! There is hope! There is revival! There is power in the Spirit to strengthen me again: “Stayed on Jehovah, hearts fully blest! Finding, as He promised, Perfect peace and rest!”
Now, you and me together, with hearts united, hearts ONE, let us go out a ‘be a blessing’ to all we meet and MORE!”
